Achieving better search engine rankings is something that is on the minds of many search engine marketers today.  Quite simply, many Internet marketers are becoming enamored with search engine optimization because of the potential enormous amount of traffic that it offers, and all for free.

For instance, if you had a website about cars, you wouldn't target the key word cars; not only is this an incredibly competitive keyword, but it is also very untargeted, and is not very likely all the convert into a sale.

You would want to focus on longer tail keywords, such as used car in Chicago, Illinois.  This would have a much lower among people searching for it, but also have a much lower amount of competition.
